very day, priests, sisters and lay ministers serving 30 Missions and 160 remote outstations in our Archdiocese go about their work of spreading the Gospel way of life, helping to relieve suffering, and bringing hope to the Zulu people, who generally live a difficult life.
After Sunday Mass in the parish Church, the priest travels to one or two outstations to hear confession, say Mass, and spend time with the people. Some times he will take food parcels, fresh vegetables or even simple medical supplies. Because, the communities he serves are poor, often without basic facilities like fresh or clean water and electricity.
But – thanks to generous support from people all over the world – clinics, schools, hospitals and churches have been built, and feeding schemes, poverty relief and skills development projects have been put in place to offer help.
Caring for the poor is one of the purposes of Mission Month. So it is a God-given opportunity to play your part. Please make a donation to help ensure that this vital work continues in our Diocese?
Your offering could buy bread, meal, or meat and vegetables for a soup kitchen to feed those without any other source of nourishing food. Or it could support a sewing project which teaches mothers skills to clothe their families or even earn an income. Or it could support health care and education programmes.
Important as money is, your prayers and spiritual support will help bring people closer to God … so that even in their darkest hour, they’ll be strengthened by their faith and sustained through the sacraments of the Church.
In far flung rural areas, the Parish, more often known as the Mission, is a beacon of hope and stability. Your gift now, during Mission month, will keep God’s light of love and care burning bright in places like these.
